Sorry I have been fairly absent! I have been working quite a bit on my UFC website trying to get traffic to it.

Every once in awhile I have to work on my affiliate websites also :) Since that is where I make money - it is a necessity. This weekend is a UFC event and I have been working overtime to get both predictions as well as search engine rankings.

Let me know what you think - this is where the majority of folks coming from Google, Bing, and Yahoo will go:

» UFC 119

Seems to be getting a decent amount of traffic, we will have to see how well that traffic converts after the Saturday fights!

Looks good Andy, will you give me my money back if you're wrong? ;D

Ah that made me laugh :) Definitely can be tough picking fights, but overall I do a lot of research into it and have been watching the fights since they started a LONG time ago. Hopefully the picks are right, but there is always a chance they miss! I usually get 3 out of the 5, which makes the overall outcome favorable.

No guarantees! ;D

Nice site! I thought maybe I was the only one promoting UFC fights! Good to know I am not. Let me know how the other sportsbooks are doing with conversions. I tried quite a few at first, but let them all go dead because conversions were horrible compared to BetUS.

Any changes in that?

Plus the BetUS marketing material was always superior as well.

I never block /category/ in robots.txt? Why would you?

@Andy - thanks, man. I'm picking up players at BetOnline, Bodog - I actually don't do that well with BetUS but as you say they have the best marketing materials.

I was going to let BetEd go because the affiliate backend was basic in the extreme and I could never tell what was going on. Now they've moved to the same software BetUS use and I find I've actually got a couple of players I didn't know about!

I never block category. not sure why I would need to do that and my SERPS say that I don't need to ;)

I'll have to try a couple others. I tried: Bookmaker, BetUS, Bodog, and OddsMaker. All sucked bad except BetUS. Bodog's generic banners annoyed me too :) You would think they, of all of them, would do better than that.

awwww mannnnn!!!!!!!!

My UFC site was down for 2.5 hours because of bandwidth exceedence :( This is the first time that has happened. I guess it can be a good and bad thing. I knew my recent traffic was about 50 times that of the last months event, but didn't realize I was that close to limits.

I lost out on about 250 search engine visitors during that time if things kept going according to yesterday. And today should be the biggest traffic for this event considering tonight is the night.

I'm so bummed :( At least it is back up now and will not hit a limit anymore.

It's a real pain when you start driving large traffic and your host messes you up, I agree.

Regarding US facing sportsbooks - BetOnline are probably the best of the rest. I keep hassling them to provide proper UFC/MMA creative but not much luck so far.

Wish I could say that I *am not* the host, but unfortunately I have a VPS and I set the quota to low for bandwidth :( My bad.

I'll try BetOnline next round to see how they perform.

I'm hoping for a good UFC119... right now getting at least 1 SE hit every 2 seconds. Sweet!

Yeah, got some deposits but mostly from existing bettors as far as I can tell. I always notice that the stats are about 24 hours delayed. Then I notice the deposits. Not sure why, maybe because it's sportsbook and they have to rectify with the bets - who knows

Overall, I did well. It's a tough niche without a forum, but fun because I love the sport.

The 24 hour reporting just kicked me in the ass this morning :) I guess my picks were TOO good! All my bettors won.

Oh well... looks like I am out $45 for this fight because I also purchased the PPV thinking I would make enough to cover that with ease.

Darn it!

It's always good to pick winners because that's what keeps people coming back to your site. It's a sickener when you personally make a loss.

The tricky thing about UFC is it's often fairly obvious who is going to win. Personally, I'm going to push those books that have over/under lines and proposition bets more strongly and choose a few more risky picks from those markets.

I actually did OK but I've suffered in the same way as you in the past, Guard Dog.
