I think we all agree with some of that Lots0. However - continual barrage after apology is useless and unprofessional. I would bet most would agree.

If Dave gets another spam on his form from ComeOn! that would be different, I think. But they have apologized and said they would contact him no more. What else can they do but that? Should they, then, be lambasted more.. Or given room to make good on that promise? I am merely stating that the latter is the right option as a professional webmaster.

I am not saying that I agree with everything Dave said.
But I do understand his frustration and anger.

I think it needs to be re-stated that Dave does have it PLAINLY stated that aff programs should not use his contact form (as i do)... what more can he, I or any aff do? Waste more time trying to contact the offending program and asking them to stop. If I did that I would NEVER have time to take care of my business and the SPAM would only increase as the SPAMMERS would know they have a 'live contact' address that they can sell...

A lot of these new program are going back to the spammer marketing model of the bad old days. They don't seem to realize that SPAMMING, of any kind, hurts us all in the long run.

Please don't forget that it took us all years to get the casino spam under control so it was not hurting us all... But I guess the battle never ends...

I can totally understand your annoyance Dave, but you need to try not to get so upset, its not good for your health!

One other thing, given the legally questionable status of marketing online casinos to Aussies (I have been given legal advice that it is explicitly illegal, its why we don't specifically target them despite being based here), I would be careful who you might piss off publicly.

I agreed, Vladi, thanks :)

Took some time out and grabbed some breaky!

I get annoyed having my valid reasons undermined. Then, when I wont roll over and zip it, I get personally insulted and told I'm not acting professionally.

If AGD truly aspires to be different from other forums - void of flames, slams and personal insults, then may I suggest, the indentured servants of this forum lead by example.

However until that happens, these virtues of professionalism are all moot points if, mods continue to take pot shots at members but turn around and chastise anyone else for following suit.

I think the gaming community knows me well enough to know I take total umbrage over double standards.

Hey Dave,

I understand your annoyance with spam, I absolutely hate it myself. It gets very old and does waste our time. But like Bonustreak said, unfortunately, it does seem to be a standard industry practice. I stopped getting so worked up over spam like I used to, realizing spam is never going away. Getting spammed repeatedly by the same person/group that we've already spoke to is irritating. But that's not the case here.

It's frustrating because the spam isn't coming from just one program, but many programs, and doesn't stop. I just don't think it's fair to get so worked up at one program, because of the frustration we have that is caused by ALL the spam we get from ALL programs all the time.

I am glad I amuse you but in all seriousness I don't get it. Would you care to elaborate or are you just trolling for an argument?

Vladi,

I was not looking for an argument or trying to 'start' anything.

I am well aware of the laws and regulations in OZ.

You really just made me laugh... Some folks say I have an odd sense of humor.

Sorry about the rolling eyes. Actually, I though I was putting the 'wink' icon up.

No intention to offend.

Sorry for the derail folks.

I just don't think it's fair to get so worked up at one program, because of the frustration we have that is caused by ALL the spam we get from ALL programs all the time.

My domain whois info is not cloaked, if a program wishes to contact me by doing a whois look up then although this is still spam, I just delete the message if I'm not interested.

However this is totally different.

The fact I have specific terms and conditions on my contact form, yet the affiliate manager discrespected these and used the form to contact me, regardless.

Whilst I understand and agree we can't control what others choose to do, if an affiliate manager makes the personal choice and decision to abuse by contact form details then I'm going to be pissy.

It's all about respect. Dish my simple requests and your dishing me. In which case I'll be all over anyones backside. for it...;D

Reiterating I get hit with up to 150 spams a day from my sites which use contact forms with similar t&c's. These forms are set-up for site visitors to contact the webmaster (me) or players who have an issue with a casino I promote of these sites.

This means I have to wade through every single email to make sure it's not a player or site visitor issue. Doing this takes up my time which = money.

I have far better things to do with my time than wade through spam sent from affiliate managers how can not or will not respect my contact form T&C's.

I don't know about you but I can think of much better and more productive ways to spend 6 hours a week, than wading through affiliate manager spam from prats that should not be using the form to start with

No one could argue with that. It is reality.

We all talk about the huge numbers of spams we receive on a daily basis. Not only from affiliate programs trying to push their gaming properties but also from spamming affiliates and outsourced marketing houses working for the casino brands themselves.

If an affiliate program has no issues sending spam or abusing site T&C's, what does that say about their anti spam policies?

I'm sick to the back teeth of it. I set-up new e-mail addresses to try and combat it but some way or other they too get spammed. I've set-up e-mails which I only use at casinos, and yep they get spammed too.

We hear and see all the blah, blah, blah (white noise) about how programs, casino etc...etc have anti spam policies, how players, affiliates personal data is protected. However I find that very hard to believe, especially when I start receiving spam with my full name attached.

If anything is going to drive home the nail that kills this industry it will be its genral philosophy of turning a blind eye & or sweeping it under the carpet.

IMO these type of acceptable actions are destroying all our livelihoods.

It was helpful but whatever you could have been private about that. I'll take on his OZ business if it keeps you from acting stupid again. This pains me, I thought you were a good guy

Hey Dave,

Like I said, I DO understand the frustration that comes from all the spams we get regardless of where it's received. It'll never stop completely trhough, and sometimes more time could be wasted complaining about it, then the spam actually wastes.

So anyway, what should we do now?
